My name is Thomas Pinion and I am the new principal at Dorton Elementary. I am a Pike County native. I graduated from East Ridge High School before attending Morehead State University. There I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching. I also graduated from the University of the Cumberlands with an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership. I started my teaching career at East Ridge High School where I taught mathematics and science. It was there where I started my coaching career as an assistant football coach. Then I moved to Shelby Valley High School where I taught mathematics and helped coached football. Then I moved to Jenkins Independent to start my administrative career. There I served as interim principal, assistant principal, athletic director, teacher, and bus driver just to name a few.
I am very excited to be back in Pike County and very eager to serve the school that is the heart of the community where my wife Cheryl and I live. I will always bleed red. My number one goal for OUR school is to remain a school of Distinction. In doing that we will remain as not only a top school in OUR district, but also in the state. We will achieve OUR goal by working as a close-knit family like Dorton has for many years. We have great students, a great staff, and by being a great supporter we will remain a great school.
If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns about your child’s education, please feel free to call or e-mail me to set up an appointment.
There will a Town Hall meeting on Monday, February 26 at the Pike Central High School library @ 5:30 p.m. Topics of discussion will include school safety and the possibility of placing licensed deputies in Pike County Schools.
